The hardware

The Battlefield: Bad Company 2 gameserver is installed on PREMIUM hardware. For quite some years i3D.net buys his hardware from Dell and at this moment we have several hundred servers located in our suites. For the PREMIUM gameservers we have chosen for the Dell PowerEdge R610 servers. The Dell R610 has been launched together with Intel 55xx CPU and contains standard support for the new generation Intel processors, SAS harddisks and DIMM.

We have chosen for the newest version of processors from the Intel Xeon architecture: the Intel QuadCore 2,66 Ghz CPU. Each server has a 4x4 GB FB DIMM memory and are foreseen from 15.000 rpm Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) hard disks from 146 GB each. But that is not all: The networkports from these servers work on gigabit speed and are foreseen from a special TCP/IP Offload Engine: this special processor takes over the TCP/IP network traffic and exonerates the CPU’s and OS from the servers.
Each Dell R610 is a 1u rackmount server and is foreseen from a 3 year 24/7 onsite warranty.

The network

i3D.net uses the fast 55 gbit i3D network in Amsterdam, London and Rotterdam, The Netherlands and the link11 network in Frankfurt, Germany. The switching in our racks is on gigabit level. The i3D network is connected with the AMS-IX for fast local connections with big ISPs in the Benelux, UK and Germany. Also we use multiple ten gigabit connections with high quality transit providers: Global Crossing, Abovenet, Highwinds, Telia, Level3 and KPN Eurorings. In Frankfurt we have a special gigabit connection with Deutsche Telekom.
